The Great Toronto Fire: April 19, 1904

Starting in the early evening the exact cause of the fire was never determined. It levelled nearly 20 acres of land, approximately 100 buildings and caused the temporary loss of over 5000 jobs Over 250 firefighters and equipment from many other communities helped fight the fire which lasted less than 9 hours.
The Scarborough Historical Society hosts programmes on the 4th Tuesday
of each month from January to April and from September to November. All
programmes begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Bendale Public Library, 1515
Danforth Road, Scarborough, ON M1J 1H5 and are free and open to the
public.
