The Whisky King

September 24, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

The guest speaker for our programme on Tuesday, September 24th will be
Trevor Cole, author of The Whisky King. It’s a remarkable true story of
Canada’s most infamous bootlegger and the undercover Mountie who
finally nabbed him.

At the dawn of the 20th century Rocco Perri rose from the life of a petty
criminal on the streets of Toronto to running the most prominent
bootlegging operation of the Prohibition era. Perri was feared by his
enemies and loved by the press. He caught the interest of one man in
particular, Frank Zaneth. Zaneth joined the RCMP and became its first
undercover investigator.

The Scarborough Historical Society hosts programmes on the 4th Tuesday
of each month from January to April and from September to November. All
programmes begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Bendale Public Library, 1515
Danforth Road, Scarborough, ON M1J 1H5 and are free and open to the
public.
